Puff ZeroPuff Zero

A puff counter that works right here, in your browser

This is a free online puff counter. Tap the button once for every puff and it keeps a running total for today, starts fresh at midnight, and stores the last 30 days on your device so you can see your daily pattern and the hours you vape most. There is no account, no download, and nothing leaves your browser — you can export the whole history as CSV whenever you want.

Saved in this browser only. Clearing site data deletes it, and it won't follow you to your phone.

Why counting changes anything

Most people who vape have no idea how much they actually vape. A disposable does not come with a counter, and nicotine use is the kind of habit that hides in the gaps of a day — the walk to the car, the ten minutes before a meeting, the moment a message lands badly.

That matters because a habit you cannot see is a habit you cannot plan around. "Cut down" is not a plan when you do not know what you are cutting down from. The first useful thing you can do is replace the guess with a number, and the number is almost always higher than people expect.

Counting also gives you something to compare against later. A week from now, the only honest measure of whether anything is working is your own baseline — not an average from a study of someone else's device and someone else's habit.

What the hourly view tells you that a total doesn't

A daily total tells you how much. The hour-of-day histogram tells you when, and when is usually the more actionable half.

Most people's counts are not spread evenly across the day. They cluster — a block after waking, a run through the late afternoon, a spike in the evening. Those clusters are where the habit is anchored to something else: a commute, a break, a particular room, a particular feeling.

Once you can see the clusters, you can plan against the two or three that account for most of your use, rather than trying to white-knuckle the whole day at once. That is a different and much smaller problem.

Setting a daily limit

You can set an optional daily limit and the counter becomes a progress ring against it. Going over is recorded, not punished — the ring changes colour and the count keeps going.

This is deliberate. A tool that scolds you gets closed, and a day you stopped logging is a day of missing data at exactly the moment the data was most interesting. An honest over-limit day is worth more than a clean-looking gap.

If you are stepping down rather than stopping outright, lowering the limit weekly is a common approach — but there is no established universal taper rate for vaping, so the pace is a decision for you, and one worth discussing with a pharmacist or a stop-smoking service if you want support with it.

What this tool can't do

  • It only counts what you tap. A puff you forget is a puff it never sees, and no browser tool can detect vaping on its own.
  • It stores everything in this browser on this device. Clearing your browsing data deletes it, and it will not follow you to your phone.
  • It cannot tell you what a healthy or normal number is, because there isn't an established one — the only number worth comparing against is your own, over time.
  • Counting is not treatment. It is a way to see a habit clearly, which is a useful start and not the same thing as quitting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use this puff counter?
Tap the circle once for every puff. The number is today's total and it starts fresh at your local midnight. Everything else — the history, the average, the hourly pattern — builds itself from those taps.
Where is my data stored?
In this browser's local storage, on this device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, and there is no account to create.
What happens if I clear my browser?
It is gone, permanently. Export the CSV first if you want to keep it. If you want history that survives a cleared browser or a new phone, that is the one thing a web page genuinely cannot do.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes — the tap target is built for a thumb. Adding the page to your home screen gives you a one-tap launch without installing anything.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded it needs no connection, and your taps keep saving. It does need to load first, so a cold start with no signal will not work.
How many puffs a day is normal?
There is no established normal. Reported daily puff counts vary enormously by device, nicotine strength and person, and any single figure you see quoted is usually someone's average rather than a benchmark. Your own count, week over week, is the comparison that means something.
